About MRS

“Baking” History For Three Decades:
Our Route to Success … and Yours

As a family owned-and-operated business, MRS has been “baking” history since 1980 – when we began with one initial cake route serving mostly small restaurants and coffee shops in Manhattan. Seeing a need for a “one-stop” source for baked goods, we soon expanded into the distribution of both breads and cakes to a wide variety of food-service establishments, including restaurants, country clubs, catering halls, delicatessens, businesses, schools and camps. Today, we are proud to offer the widest assortment of the highest quality breads, rolls, bagels, cakes, pies and pastries to over 40 routes in the tri-state area -- making over 1,000 customer deliveries of the freshest baked goods to food-service establishments throughout the region before the sun comes up each morning.

At MRS, we’re proud of our “route” to success. We’re even more proud of what our strong history and experience means to our customers, who have benefited from our commitment, passion – and innovation – throughout the years. In fact, our strong history and proven success has made us the distributor of choice for many new items and manufacturers. That means when it comes to exciting new products, we usually get it first -- and so do you.

Fondant

Fondant is a versatile decorative icing used to sculpt cakes and pastries. An artistic baker’s dream, fondant has a dough-like consistency that can be molded into numerous designs. There are several different types of fondant that can be used to create a wide variety of desserts. Poured fondant is a creamy filling found in many sweets, while the more pliable rolled fondant is commonly used to decorate cakes.

Fondant comes from the French word for “melting.” This malleable clay-like substance is made from sugar, water, gelatin, vegetable fat or shortening, and glycerol. Rolled fondant has risen in popularity, as it does not contain common allergens found in traditionally used icings. It is the perfect material to transform a dessert into an artist’s canvas.
