Fondant
Fondant is a versatile decorative icing used to sculpt cakes and pastries. An artistic baker’s dream, fondant has a dough-like consistency that can be molded into numerous designs. There are several different types of fondant that can be used to create a wide variety of desserts. Poured fondant is a creamy filling found in many sweets, while the more pliable rolled fondant is commonly used to decorate cakes.
Fondant comes from the French word for “melting.” This malleable clay-like substance is made from sugar, water, gelatin, vegetable fat or shortening, and glycerol. Rolled fondant has risen in popularity, as it does not contain common allergens found in traditionally used icings. It is the perfect material to transform a dessert into an artist’s canvas.
